On the topic of more physical sharing and computing, this rfid/interactive block idea has been buzzing around for a while. There was a thesis around earlier this year put out by a RCA Grad addressing the same phenomenon, but for social media.
It’s funny that we (young people) seem to agree that Old People can’t use the current computer interface as it’s evolved to be. (see last post too). Really? Doesn’t that seem like a flawed concept? Us Young People can adapt to the internets, their complexity, and, in a sense, their unnatural interface. But, when it comes to those less able to learn new tricks, we give them child-like building blocks. I think we’re missing something here.
Yes, design for the elderly and children seem to both be over simplified. But why such a strong divide? It seems to imply that the physical interaction of accessing, sharing, and storing information seems more “natural”, yet those of us in our prime can over come those urges to be part of the modern world.
