Sony replies to Maker’s questions about the future of their ereader. It’s a pretty old post (2006), but it shows how forward thinking they are about DRM limitations and potential for using the device with multiple formats. Potentially, it has a much broader appeal than something like the Nook or the Kindle - with abilities to view interactive PDFs.
